Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees
The biggest rivalry in all of baseball in my opinion is the Yankees and the Red Sox. You either love the teams or you hate them. They are both in the same division so of course the level of competitiveness is high. Taking a look at the season the Yankees are at the top with a winning record of 19-12. On the other hand, the Red Sox are in last place with a record of 13-17. Ironically enough, in the beginning the Yankees had the losing record and the Red Sox were above .500. It's been weird with what is happening with both teams.
The Yankees seem to be more confident in themselves than before. They have A-Rod back after serving a 162 suspension because of abusing the drug policy. There are a lot of critics out there that feel like if he didn't taking enhancing drugs he wouldn't have done as good as they thought he would. What he did was wrong but he manned up, was able to take the consequences, and now is back this season as strong as ever. I hope that he will have a good season. It's very interesting with the Yankees. They are 8-7 at home and 11-5 on the road. That doesn't happen that often. They seem to be playing their best on the road but unfortunately at home, they have had some bad luck through it all.
The Red Sox have some major contributors on their team. This last off season they were able to acquire third baseman Pablo Sandoval from the reigning champions the San Fransisco Giants. He has been doing pretty well but the surprise for sure is Hanley Ramirez. He is having an excellent season despite having to follow in the shadows of big men like Sandoval and Ortiz. Let's see if the Red Sox have the determination and will to fight back and win more games.
Here's a look at some of the greatest baseball players on both teams. With the Yankees there a lot of good ones. The ones that stood out to me were Roger Maris, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettite, Derek Jeter, Yogi Berra, Mariano Rivera, Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, and the baseball player that was #1 on the list was Babe Ruth. That's the first person that I thought of that deserved that spot.
With the Red Sox players that I recognized on this list were Jonathan Papelbon, Tim Wakefield, Nomar Garciaparra, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Cy Young, Roger Clemens, and Pedro Martinez. I'm interested to see what happens for both teams this season.
