USA Women's World Cup
USA USA USA USA USA!!!
This month was a phenomenal one for the USA Women's National Soccer team. They hadn't one the World Cup since 1999 and they were very hungry to get the victory against Japan, (with whom they previously lost in the finals in 2011). They wanted to come out and redeem themselves against a good opponent.
In 2011, the US lost to Japan in penalty kicks in the Finals. This time it wasn't so. In the first fifteen minutes alone the US Women scored three times all coming from Carli Lloyd. It was the first hat trick in a women's soccer final. I would have never expected that the game would start like that.
All of the team contributed in different ways, even if it wasn't necessarily scoring. This is a team, in my opinion, that I felt had a lot more confidence in themselves than the last cup. They all came together and were determined to win. They ended up winning 5 to 2. I am so happy and proud to be an American.
I have to commend Hope Solo with what she has done for her team. She is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and not only did she have to worry on the World Cup, she also had personal issues that were brought forth against her. I applaud her for being very mature and handling it the best that she could. Solo only allowed 3 goals scored against her in the World Cup. She's a spectacular athlete and I am so glad that she was able to get the victory she clearly deserved.
Lastly, I would like to talk about Abby Wambach. She has been on the team since 2001 and it was so thrilling and exciting to see her reaction to the win. She has been one of the best athletes on the team and has been a great leader to her teammates. Wambach is not just an inspiration to her teammates but to so many others as well. This was a fun year for the team. Congrats to the US Women's National Team!!!
