Men's College Basketball
This season of college of basketball has been like no other. Last season Kentucky held on to the #1 spot for a long time. In fact, they went 42-0 (including the NCAA tournament) until they finally lost to Wisconsin. This season there has been so many upsets and so many changes. Every team that has had the #1 spot in the rankings have all seemed to go down with upsets.
In fact according to an article on Sports Nation, the main title reads "Top ranked college basketball teams are being upset more than they have in 67 years". Ricky O'Donnell, the sports journalist goes on to explain how 5 #1 teams have fallen before the month of February. That's pretty incredible to say the least. In all my years of watching basketball I have never seen so many upsets happen to ranked teams.
I give credit to the state of Iowa. Their teams fought hard to knock off previously #1 ranked teams. It all started with Northern Iowa. They knocked off Marcus Paige and the Tar heels and then it continued on with Iowa. They knocked off Michigan State. Their rival Iowa State just recently beat Oklahoma.
It's been a crazy and unpredictable season. It's going to be even more fun when March comes around. March Madness month is one of my favorites. I never seem to get my brackets right though. It will be very interesting to see how the rest of the season turns out.
I like the quote that talks about "it's not about how many times you fall that matters, it's how many times you get back up." There are a lot of teams that have been so good for many years that it seems a weird to be losing. For example look at Duke. They won the NCAA championship almost a year ago and now they are currently on a 3 game losing streak. That doesn't happen a lot for Duke.
They always have had a lot of talent and Coach K seeks out the best. He actually came to Lone Peak to see Frank Jackson play. The shooting guard has committed to play at Duke. It will be fun to see him play in the coming years and see how he fits in to the offense.
Will there be anymore upsets to #1 ranked teams? Will they actually be able to stay at the spot or will there be more upsets a brewing? I am anxious to see what happens.
