Super Bowl 50

Super Bowl 50 shocked a lot of sports writers and Carolina fans, including Golden State Warrior's own Stephan Curry. Curry said (and I paraphrase) that Carolina was going to blowout Denver. I respect and love watching Curry, but I would have wanted to ask him if he was paying attention to the Bronco's defense this season?

Here's a Bronco's team that was able to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots twice. It's very hard to do that but the defense was able to get to Brady and frustrate him. They lost four times during the season. Once to the Colts in Indianapolis, once to the Steelers, and then losses to the Raiders and the Chiefs.

Here's some stats compiled from the Bronco's defense this season. They ranked #1 in net yards. They held opponents to the least amount of yards all season. They only gave up 19 Touchdowns to opposing teams. They also had 14 interceptions and 52 sacks (the most in the league). Not a lot of people would have thought defense would win championships. But the Broncos clearly did it and surprised quite a few.

The Panthers on the other hand, coming into this game had the highest amount of points scored per game. A lot of that credit goes to Cam Newton. He had a career record of Touchdowns this season. He had 38 passing and 12 rushing. He had a lot of fun this season for sure. Whether it was dancing moves, (doing the Superman pose or Dabs) or whenever he scored he would give the game ball to a kid. They had a lot of momentum on their side going into this game. He received the NFL MVP but this game was his worst this season.

It's such a shame because the previous season before the Panthers for 3-8. This season they only lost once against the Falcons and then just didn't have a good game in the Super Bowl. They have had a lot of adversity to overcome and you still have to applaud their efforts for what they were able to do. Not a lot of people expected them to have the season they did.

I always say turnovers will determine the winner. They sure did in this game. Overall, there for 6 turnovers on both sides. The Denver defense forced 4 turnovers, with one of them leading to touchdown. Both defenses frustrated Manning and Newton. Bronco's sacked Newton 6 times and Panther's sacked Manning 5 times.

Statistically speaking Carolina had the advantage offensively but it's the costly turnovers that hurt them in the end.

Peyton Manning didn't have his best game but he clearly deserved this win. Von Miller, who received the MVP in the game said they were all doing this for Manning. They played their hearts out for him. Manning has done so much in his career. Entering into this game, this would be his 4th Super Bowl appearance. He won once with the Indianapolis Colts in 2007 and then the other two appearances he lost. I really wanted this victory for Peyton. I grew up as a kid idolizing Manning. I loved him with the Colts and was disappointed when they traded him but in the end it was a good thing for him to go to Denver. He by far is my favorite football athlete. Now the question is will he return or retire? His mom said afterwards that she would prefer him to go out on top and retire. He told reporters he was still going to make the decision on that.

What a great win for the Broncos! With injuries and all they were able to get through those times and get the big W. This was great for Wade Phillips. I'm glad to see that he was able to get a Superbowl victory with his defense.

Lastly, what a great victory for head coach Gary Kubiak. After the previous season when John Fox left for Chicago, Kubiak came in from Baltimore and delivered big time. An interesting fact about him is that he is one of three coaches to win the Superbowl as player and a coach on the same team. In this case, the Broncos. He backed up John Elway in Denver for 9 seasons and then last year became the new head coach for them.
