March Madness
It's here! It's the best month of the year for men's college basketball. Every year never fails to disappoint with some of the most exciting Cinderella upsets. Last year it was Wisconsin defeating previously undefeated Kentucky to get into the National Championship game against Duke.
It's going to very interesting to see what happens this year. The thing I love about March Madness is that you never know what's going to happen. Just because your a #1 seed doesn't mean you are going to go all the way. Quite a few #1 seeds have been upset in the past.
It's crazy to think that last year's champion Duke, was out of the top 25 this past season. This season in college basketball was unpredictable. Usually there is a standout #1 team in the country that is strong and stays there for a long time. But that wasn't the case this past season. So many #1 teams got beat, including Kansas and Oklahoma just to name a few.
Apparently Obama and I both agree that Kansas is going to beat North Carolina for the title. I wouldn't be surprised though if both of them get upset in the tournament.
Out of all of the higher seeded teams I really like Temple and Butler. I feel like both of them can advance far in this tournament if they play lights out. They are both really good teams it just all depends on being consistent.
TURNOVERS, TURNOVER, TURNOVERS!! Those are are some of the biggest things I have talked about on previous basketball posts. Teams that can create more turnovers on the opposing side have a better chance of winning.
When I have been playing basketball the thing that I have liked the most is the constant sharing of the basketball. I love when teams communicate well and give players good opportunities for good shots. That's what needs to be done starting tomorrow when the tournament starts.
A lot of teams love the up tempo and fast pace of the game. It's a good thing for teams that work well with that kind of pace. There's also teams that slow it down more and take their time on getting a good shot.
It frustrates me to see players that take ill advised shots. For example, when your open in the corner and no one is guarding you then take that 3 point shot. That's a good shot to take and even if it doesn't go in that's ok because they got a good look anyways. There will be more opportunities to take good shots and hopefully have the majority of them go in.
I've seen these type of plays happen quite a bit. A 5'8 point guard decides to go inside the post for the layup but as he goes up for it a 6'6 forward is there to make the block. Players need to be aware of who is as the basket and go inside and get the bucket when you know you have the advantage.
It's going to be an exciting couple of weeks for college basketball!
