NFL 2015

Image
NFL 2015 It's been a while since I have posted so now my goal is to post at least once a week for all of you great readers who support my blog. I am going to share my thoughts of the NFL season so far. First off is it just me or does it seem like this is the unlucky year for injuries (not only in the NFL but also college). In particular, quite a few quarterbacks have got the bad end of the stick. Tony Romo, Drew Brees, Andrew Luck,  and Ben Roethlisberger are some of the star quarterbacks that have gone down. It's so unfortunate for the Cowboys because at the start of the season Romo led the Cowboys to a 2-0 record but than he got injured and Brandon Weeden came in and he couldn't lead the team to any victories. After three games they decided to switch to Matt Cassel who hasn't performed any better and the team has lost 5 straight games. They desperately need Tony Romo back. In my opinion, if the Cowboys want any chance to go to the playoffs they have to win ever...

USA Women's World Cup

Image
USA USA USA USA USA!!! This month was a phenomenal one for the USA Women's National Soccer team. They hadn't one the World Cup since 1999 and they were very hungry to get the victory against Japan, (with whom they previously lost in the finals in 2011). They wanted to come out and redeem themselves against a good opponent. In 2011, the US lost to Japan in penalty kicks in the Finals. This time it wasn't so. In the first fifteen minutes alone the US Women scored three times all coming from Carli Lloyd. It was the first hat trick in a women's soccer final. I would have never expected that the game would start like that. All of the team contributed in different ways, even if it wasn't necessarily scoring. This is a team, in my opinion, that I felt had a lot more confidence in themselves than the last cup. They all came together and were determined to win. They ended up winning 5 to 2.  I am so happy and proud to be an American. I have to commend Hope So...

The NBA Draft!

Image
Yesterday the NBA Draft started. I was excited to see who the Jazz would pick at #12. They picked Trey Lyles, who played for John Calipari at Kentucky. There were mixed reviews on this. A lot of people were upset that the Jazz didn't pick up shooting guard Devon Booker. Booker was named the SEC Sixth Man of the Year as well as being a McDonald's All American. I really liked how he played at Kentucky but I believe in Trey Lyles. I think that Lyle's has a lot to bring to the table. If you look at his stats from his one and only season in Kentucky he only averaged around 8 points and 5 rebounds but than again he had other players on the team that were stars. They all shared the basketball and worked well together as a team. I am really excited to see this young man grow on the team. I believe he will definitely contribute and be a factor in the upcoming years. He has a lot to learn, as with any new NBA draftee but I think he will listen to his coaches and work hard and devel...

The Warriors are the Champions

Image
So it finally happened for Golden State. They won the NBA Championship with first year head coach Steve Kerr. The last time they won the whole thing was in 1975 which was 40 years ago. I have been very impressed with how they have played all season. What I really like most about the team is that they share the ball a lot. They averaged about 24 a game which is really good. In basketball, there are always superstars of course but I love to see chemistry with the players. I am so happy that Steph Curry got the MVP of the season. He definitely deserved it. In the playoffs this season he had an incredible amount of 3 pointers. He hit 91 of them on his own. That's not an easy thing to do. During the Finals, he had some brilliant games and some performances that wern't so good but he sure is a favorite of mine and he sure had the determination and will to win it all with his teammates. I was a little disappointed with Klay Thompson. For some reason Curry and Thompson were having ...

NBA Finals 2015: Cavs vs Warriors

Image
The first game of the series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors was incredible. They went back and forth through out the entire game. In the first half it was all the Cavaliers. They played excellent defense and were able to keep the explosive offensive Warriors from scoring. It was very frustrating because they weren't playing like the team they usually have through out the whole season. They were not taking very good shots and had quite a few turnovers. They couldn't stop Lebron James. He was on fire as he usually is. BTW side note I hate how all these people are comparing him to MJ. Every Hall of Famer is unique and different in their own playing style. That is just my opinion though. Anyways back to the game, Lebron was just playing the best he could possibly do and had some good help with players like JR Smith and Iman Shumpert. Tristan Thompson, another one of the Cavs players helped big time on defense. He wasn't good offensively but h...

Real Salt Lake

I haven't talked about RSL yet so I will just give my thoughts on the team. There is so much talent on this sqaud. They are not as good as they once were when they won the title but they are still an elite team. They even have quite a few players who have had played on national teams. It's quite impressive. Nick Rimando and Kyle Beckerman are players that have been called to play on the USA team. They played in the World Cup and played the best they could. Unfortunately there were other teams that were better. I am excited to see how RSL does this season. Last year I was able to go watch RSL and they never cease to entertain. I love how the fans really get into it. Soccer is not as boring as people think it is. I admit before I got into watching the World Cup I did think soccer was boring. I didn't want to waste 90 minutes of my time watching people dribble a ball into a net. There wasn't as much energy there than at basketball or football games. But then I started to...

Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees

Image
The biggest rivalry in all of baseball in my opinion is the Yankees and the Red Sox. You either love the teams or you hate them. They are both in the same division so of course the level of competitiveness is high. Taking a look at the season the Yankees are at the top with a winning record of 19-12. On the other hand, the Red Sox are in last place with a record of 13-17. Ironically enough, in the beginning the Yankees had the losing record and the Red Sox were above .500. It's been weird with what is happening with both teams.  The Yankees seem to be more confident in themselves than before. They have A-Rod back after serving a 162 suspension because of abusing the drug policy. There are a lot of critics out there that feel like if he didn't taking enhancing drugs he wouldn't have done as good as they thought he would. What he did was wrong but he manned up, was able to take the consequences, and now is back this season as strong as ever. I hope that he will have a goo...

Pacquiao vs Mayweather

Image
Tomorrow is the big fight! Pacquiao vs Mayweather. It's one of the best boxing match ups of all time. They are both evenly matched but I will be cheering the Filipino on. I think he has worked very hard and deserves this win. I believe he is more humble and hopefully my prediction is correct. Mayweather, on the other hand has been nothing but arrogant. He said he was better than Muhammed Ali as well as Sugar Ray Robinson. He clearly doesn't have a filter and doesn't mind sharing his opinion on things. He didn't mind showing his home to ESPN. He said so himself that he's a spoiled brat. He showed seven or eight cars totaling around $15 million dollars. Are you kidding me? Just on cars. Soon after, they go into his closet and he shows off his watch worth about a hundred thousand dollars. But you know what he is the richest boxer in the world he can do whatever he wants. We shall see what happens tomorrow night!.

NFL Draft 2015

Image
So the NFL Draft begins Thursday. Who is going to be the first pick in the draft? A lot of attention has been on Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. According to a mock draft by Peter King from Sports Illustrated, he has Winston going to the Bucs at #1 and Mariota going at #2 to the Titans. Which quarterback is going to have a better career but most importantly, which one is going to make a better impact on their teams? In my opinion I think it's going to be Marcus Mariota. Just look at what he did to Winston and Florida State in the Rose Bowl. He decimated them 59 to 20 and I just like his athleticism more than Winston. Don't get me wrong Winston is very athletic as well I just like Mariota's chances more in the NFL. I am very anxious and excited who the Colts draft. All the talk has been about picking up Safety Landon Collins from Alabama. Haven't heard of him before but it seems like he could be a good fit. Can't wait to see what...

Quincy Lewis

Image
So I just found out a couple days ago from my Dad that Quincy Lewis (Head Coach at Lone Peak) had some Job Interviews at different colleges. He first interviewed for UVU's basketball head coach. It was between him and former BYU assistant coach Mark Pope. But in the end unfortunately, he didn't get the job. Now he is contending for Mark Pope's former job. Will he get it? We will have to find out. Quincy Lewis has done so much for Lone Peak basketball. I don't have any bad things to say about him. I would love to be coach under him. In his 11 seasons so far at Lone Peak he has a 232-38 record which is a winning percentage of 86%. Under him they have earned 9 region titles, 7 state titles and national rankings as well. Whatever option he chooses, people will be lucky to have him as their coach.

The NBA Playoffs: Part Two

Image
Eastern Conference 1. Atlanta Hawks (aka Utah Hawks): Chris and I have been talking about this team. They are the Utah Hawks haha. Three of their players came from the Jazz. First and foremost Paul Milsap. I was so disappointed when he was traded. He was such a good player for the Jazz but I am glad where he is at. Then there is Kyle Korver and DeMarre Carrell. In game two the trio combined for 38 of the hawks 96 points. The Hawks are very impressive team. They have an incredible coach who has led this team from mediocre to amazing! No surprise that Mike Budenholzer (isn't that a cool last name) got Coach of the Year. He gave a lot of credit to his mentor and college Gregg Poppovich. I would too working along side him for nearly 20 years. I am happy for all the success they have had and I hope they move on to round two by beating Deron Williams and the Nets. They have a 14% chance of winning the Title. 2. Brooklyn Nets: It's very unfortunate that the Nets lost Ke...

The NBA Playoffs!

Image
The NBA Playoffs are here. Yay!! We just got done from a very entertaining March Madness in college basketball. Let me just say I was happy with the result, because I love Coach K. Wisconsin clearly deserved it more though. They hadn't won the title since 1941. Anyways, back to the NBA Playoffs I am going to breakdown every team in the playoffs and give you my take on their team in general and what chances of them winning the whole thing. Western Conference 1. Golden State Warriors: I have to say the Warriors are my favorite team in the playoffs, including both Western and Eastern Conferences. I am in love with Curry and Thompson, (The Splash). They bring a certain energy and their 3 point shooting is off the charts. Except they have been a little shaky with their 3 point shooting right now. They are both combined from two games so far 13/36 which is 36 percent. They also have a great bench to support them. Steve Kerr has done a phenominal job. I love him. He was a great...
